George's statement in response to the events in Charlottesville

George has issued the following statement in response to the recent events in Charlottesville, VA and their aftermath:

"Like so many of you, I am horrified by what took place last weekend in Charlottesville. As a nation, our response ought to transcend politics. Even without the tragic death of Heather Heyer or the injuries to others caused by the car attack, it was an event that elected leaders of all parties should condemn. We must speak out against violence, hatred, bigotry, and racism wherever they appear.
Now is the time to identify evil and call it by its name, without equivocation. The tepid responses from some of our elected officials and the alarming remarks by President Trump at his Tuesday press conference are deeply disappointing. Attempts to portray counter-protesters in the same light as the KKK, neo-Nazis, and other violent white supremacist or nationalist groups tear at the very fabric of our democracy. Such attempts give lie to our national motto, “e pluribus unum”—out of many, one.
Our political landscape is as divided as it has ever been in my lifetime. I want to change that. Regardless of party affiliation, surely we can come together with one voice and denounce the evil of the Charlottesville attack and of the groups responsible for it, and demand an appropriate response from our President and other elected leaders. We must learn, once again, to move forward together. This is an opportunity to do just that."

"Scott freely admits he’s facing an “uphill battle” to win Pennsylvania’s 4th Congressional District.
Still, he’s elected to fight those political headwinds and throw his hat into the ring.
He should be applauded for that. A democracy works best when there is a real choice between opposing candidates."
